Some time ago a relative of mine along with 300 spartans was told to put his spears down when the persians attacked the Thermopiles.

He replied " Molon Lave" (Come and take them).

Then the suprise attack was there.

Half guard is a great position

No matter if your in the top position or bottom position the most important details of an effective half guard is to get your under hooks. Once you have established this you can create leverage to sweep or submit. That right I said it submit!!!

The second piece of advice that I could give to the person in the bottom is never lay flat. The only time he can use his weight on you is if you lay flat, so I tend to place my chin on my opponents shoulder.
