Judo for 3 months at NYAC and most of my takedowns/jiu jitsu game progressed when I trained with Steven Williams from our gym.

There are judo classes at the McBurney YMCA on 14th Steet. The website is www.nycjudo.com. The classes are taught by Matsumura Sensei, who also teaches at NYAC and 3x Olympian and ADCC competitor Celita Schutz's judo academy. The classes at the YMCA are open to beginners. At RGA, I would also suggest taking a private lesson with Leo "Tunico". His judo is sick...he'll throw you on your head for sure.

Nah, they are talking about Tunico, who happens to also have practically the same name as Leo Leite.

I recently purchased a good Judo book that's been very helpful in me understanding how take-downs should work. Obviously, I'll need to do more than just read a book (I'll need to practice!) but I do feel that this was a very helpful step. I've learned a lot already.

If you're interested, this is the book I bought:
